It’s been a whole month since my first pregnancy update and I feel like I’m due to share what’s happened the past few months! I feel like monthly updates are easier for me to keep up with so hopefully this frequency works for y’all.
What’s New:
Well, most notably is that we know the gender! Tyler and I could not be more excited to be welcoming a baby girl into our family. However, given the little mishap we had with Liam (read about that here), I am looking forward to our 20 week appointment and ultrasound to confirm she is in fact a girl. Other than that, my belly is definitely popping although some days I feel like its way bigger than others. My boobs are ginormous and tender and probably account for a good 3 lbs of my weight gain. 😉 I definitely jinxed myself by saying they weren’t tender though because that completely changed in the 2nd trimester.
I’ve also started to feel some little movements which is the best part of pregnancy for me. She fought against the doppler at our appointment last week and I felt my biggest movement to date which made me so happy and gave my pregnancy anxiety some much-needed relief. Tyler still hasn’t been able to feel any movement so hopefully he can in the next few weeks. It seems like every time I tell him to come try to feel her she gets stage fright and completely freezes up just like Liam did at this stage in my pregnancy with him. Apparently they’re going to be fairly similar!
How I’m Feeling:
Honestly, pretty normal. I know I am so incredibly blessed to have easy pregnancies but other than feeling physically exhausted 100% of the time, I feel great. Obviously once I start putting on more weight and my belly gets bigger I’ll become increasingly more uncomfortable but so far so good right now. (I’m sure I’m completely jinxing myself with that too!) Also, I am embarrassingly out of breath after walking up the stairs, especially if I’m carrying Liam. I don’t recall it being this bad this early with Liam but holy moly it’s pathetic…and will only get worse.
Physical Changes:
As mentioned above, my boobs definitely caught on to my pregnancy and are swollen, tender and just overall heavy for the past few weeks now. And now that my belly is showing more, I’m getting a lot more attention and people are noticing that I’m actually pregnant…and touching my belly. I don’t mind that as much as some but it’s still weird to me how people assume it’s ok to just walk up and touch someone’s stomach. I think bellies just have a gravitational pull and people can’t help but want to touch it!
Food Cravings and Aversions:
Coffee is finally making a comeback as of this week! I’m not sure what made me turn the corner but it’s been nice since we’ve had some disrupted sleep this week thanks to both Liam and Dixie. Also eggs with store-bought, jarred salsa is a delicious favorite for breakfast. Leftover Easter ham biscuits were on repeat this week too. So. Darn. Good. But they’re definitely not low carb so I’m glad we finally ran out of rolls. 🙂 Lemonade still sounds good but I haven’t been pounding it like I was a few weeks ago. Additionally, I had my first experience with taking one bite of something Tyler had just finished cooking (Iowa Girl Eat’s Lettuce Wraps) and then immediately wanting to throw up. We’ve had these multiple times in the past and I love them so why they all the sudden bothered me is beyond me. I hadn’t experienced that with my first pregnancy so it was definitely new and certainly wasn’t my favorite side effect of pregnancy. Pregnancy is such a wild ride but I’m so thankful to get to experience with another precious babe.
Side note: I also want to mention that I know so many women struggle with infertility and pregnancy loss and I am completely sympathetic to that and I understand how truly blessed we are. I know not everyone has had it as easy as we have and if you’re at a part in your journey where reading these updates are difficult I completely understand!
