Growing up I thought I had awful skin and would be destined to have acne my whole life. I went from the teen years, to college and going to bars and not taking off my makeup (smacks palm to forehead!), to my adult life where things leveled out, to transitioning off of birth control to try to start a family and my skin going bananas, to getting pregnant and more hormonal fluctuations…you see where I’m going with this? 15 years and all of those changes later, I feel like I’ve finally gotten to a place where I feel like I finally understand my skin and have gotten it to a good place.
When I was asked to share my skin care routine because y’all think I have great skin (or at least a few of you do anyway), it literally blew my mind that anyone would care about what I use on my skin because I felt like it was so awful for so many years. But ask and you shall receive!
I’ve broken this up by morning and night because I do have different products that I use at different times of the day.
The best part? Today happens to be the first day of the Spring Sephora event for Rouge members! You can get 20% off with the code HEYROUGE. Don’t think they forgot about everyone else! The sale opens for everyone else on May 2. For VIB members you can get 15% off with code HEYVIB and for Beauty Insiders you can get 10% off with code HEYINSIDER.
Morning Routine:
Face Wash/Cleanser
Oh face wash. I feel like I’ve used them all. My favorite for the morning is Purity with my Clarisonic.
Serum
I have been using a vitamin C serum ever since I first heard about it’s great anti-aging benefits. I recently tried out this one at the end of the year and will use it up but my preference is definitely my tried and true Potent-C Serum. It’s pricey but well worth the cost. One bottle lasted me 5-6 months which I think is great for the price.
Moisturizer
If you follow me on Instagram you probably already know my favorite but Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream has been a favorite of mine for the last 8+ months. I received it originally to review for the blog and I absolutely fell in love. I have combination skin and it has a gel consistency which is recommended for oily/combo skin. It goes on smooth and sinks in quickly.
Also important to note, proper hydration is important for oily/combo skin! If your skin is too dry it produces more oil and can lead to a vicious cycle.
Nighttime Routine:
Makeup Remover Wipes
Before I wash my face at night I always take off my make up first. I alternate between using these if I’m going to shower or these if I’m not going to shower. Don’t ask why and I don’t really have a rhyme or reason to it. It’s just what I do.
Face Wash/Cleanser
This one is a tried and true fave and is a drugstore option that is definitely budget friendly. Plus, one bottle lasts forever.
Serum
After washing my face, I alternate nights using this Invigorating Night Transformation Gel and this Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Serum.
Moisturizer
I am currently alternating between this drugstore fave and this Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer. Truthfully, I have noticed much of a difference with the latter and won’t repurchase it. I have been using the drugstore product for years and do feel like it helps with wrinkles. Even if I venture out and try a new product, I always end up coming back to it!
Eye Cream
I’ve been using this eye cream for about a year and love it. Again, the Vitamin C has great anti-aging properties and it smells good. I do feel it has made a difference in minimizing the fine lines around my eyes.
