Happy New Year everyone! I can’t believe we are already in 2018. It seriously doesn’t seem possible to be in a new year already. I wanted to talk to you about my new favorite makeup. Let me start by saying that I have had trouble with my skin for years and am very particular about what makeup and skincare products I use so I don’t cause a breakout by switching things up. My skin is pretty oily and has gone through the wringer from crazy, cystic teenage acne to adult acne (seriously though, why?!) to the crazy hormonal fluctuations through pregnancy and postpartum and back again.
I mentioned in my drugstore beauty favorites post how I resisted liquid foundation for years. I always felt like I couldn’t find the right shade or it looked super caked on and just not natural. Then I went to mineral makeup and couldn’t get the amount of coverage I was looking for for my aforementioned acne prone skin. I finally revisited liquid foundation (applied with a makeup blending sponge – game changer!) and was pleased with the new formulations. However, I found myself veering away from it again until I tried the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Foundation. Seriously, this stuff is amazing. I prep my face with the Healthy Skin Primer before applying foundation and finish my face with a translucent setting powder and I don’t find that I look like there’s an oil slick on my face like I do with most other liquid foundations. And best of all, after using it for a week, I had zero skin irritation or breakouts! Score!
In this look, I also used the Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector under my eyes and even on my lids in place of eye shadow primer which I think is pointless personally. If anyone remembers those lip glosses you used to get where you twisted the bottom of the container and it had a super soft brush to apply it, that’s exactly how this is! It’s so soft and I look forward to applying it because I love the brush so much. And just like my foundation, I blending the concealer with my makeup blending sponge.
For my contour, I used the Healthy Skin Blends bronzer and just swirled my brush around in a circular motion to get all of the shades in one and tapped it out as to not apply it too heavily. I finished it off with the Healthy Skin Blush to brighten up my cheeks.
To finish off my look, I used the Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow set for my eyes. I love that its pretty fool-proof and they tell you exactly where to apply each color to achieve the desired look you’re going for. The darkest shade was intended to be used as a liner but I personally like a thick, dark liner and just couldn’t get down with it so I did apply my own liquid liner but I did love the overall pigmentation of the shades.
Also, in case you’re wondering, I know I’m telling you all of this in the reverse order of how most makeup artists would tell you to do your makeup. However, I’m a creature of habit and have my doing my makeup in this order forever and don’t plan to change.
I always top off my look with mascara and absolutely loved the Healthy Volume Mascara. I did apply a few coats to achieve the desired thickness I was going for but look at that length! Can’t beat that ladies!
