Thank you to Tropical Smoothie Cafe for sponsoring this post. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
Happy Saturday friends! I hope everyone had an amazing Halloween week. We had a great week here. While I was gearing up for maternity leave we made the decision to keep Liam in preschool full-time as to not mess with his schedule and to hold his place in the program. I really struggled with this because I felt like I should take advantage of the time at home to spend with him but he really does learn so much and enjoys playing with his friends so we ultimately decided it was the best call.
However, since we didn’t take a vacation this year due to my maternity leave, we didn’t take advantage of our “free week” meaning we get one week where we don’t have to pay while he’s not there. So I decided what better week than the week of Halloween to keep him home with me? Ellie is 8 weeks old now and we’re in a pretty good groove so I planned a bunch of crafts and fun stuff to do while he was home. Easy, right? Let’s just say I have a new-found respect for his teachers and any mother with 3+ children!
Every time I’ve been out with both kids it’s either been just to drop off or pick-up for school or grocery store pick-up which doesn’t involve much on my part. But this past week I decided we would head to Tropical Smoothie Cafe to try their pressed sandwiches without Tyler’s extra set of hands and I left wishing I was an octopus with 8 arms.
Liam is a super picky eater and won’t eat any vegetables in their natural state so my favorite way to sneak them in is in a smoothie. Just ask them to throw some spinach in to whatever smoothie you’re getting and voila! Health food! Pro tip: we also like to call green smoothies “Hulk drinks” or “monster drinks” to make them seem extra special. Whatever gets some veggies in them, am I right?
Thankfully, Liam still thinks he’s eating “ice cream” despite the hidden veggies so heading to Tropical Smoothie for lunch was a no brainer! We picked up their Chicken Caprese and Cuban pressed sandwiches paired with some chips.
Like I said, Liam is super picky when it comes to food but he went straight for the Caprese sandwich and had a few bites so I’ll call that a win! I absolutely love Mediterranean flavors and the pesto gave the sandwich a punch of flavor and the mozzarella was gooey and delicious. The Cuban was also delicious but wasn’t a hit with Liam. That’s ok with me though! It left more for me. Let’s be real though, if you put pickles on just about anything I’m going to love it. The briny flavor of the pickles and the saltiness of the Swiss cheese pair so well with the ham and pork and it made me forget how much I love a good Cuban! These two sandwiches are now permanent menu options at Tropical Smoothie Cafe so be sure to check them out!
Fortunately, Ellie slept through most of our outing but started to fuss towards the end of our visit so we packed it up really quickly and made our exit as to avoid any major meltdowns.
But before we loaded up in the car Liam decided he needed to take a little break on a bench to sip on his smoothie so of course I had to snap a picture. Why does he look like a 75-year-old man in this outfit?! Also, please note the hole he poked in the side of his cup that was not discovered until we got in the car and I had to hold his remaining smoothie on its side the whole way home to pour it into a different cup. Toddlers.
